Requirements for becoming a patroller: |
| |
|
We are always looking for excellent people to join Alpine Valley Ski Patrol. Becoming a member of the
National Ski Patrol requires time and dedication. It can be demanding, but it is also very rewarding.
Interested people need to be at least 18 years of age and be confident with their skiing skills.
The Patrol is comprised of volunteers who dedicate their time and resources to provide a safe and fun
skiing environment for our community.

| |
|
To be considered for membership, we ask that interested individuals please complete the Candidate
Application. Once applications are reviewed, you will be contacted to come in for an interview and
skill evaluation (date will be set by our On-Hill Training Coordinator). At this time it also gives
the individual an opportunity to get their questions answered and for us to get to know them.

Registration for new pre-candidates is $100.00 and they are expected to ski train every Sunday morning
from 9:00 AM to noon and to work one five-hour shift. An arm band is provided to identify them as a
pre-candidate and to serve as a lift pass.

The second year of training starts in the fall with CPR and Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) training.
There is an estimate of 44 hours of class time and attendance is required. The cost of training,
required supplies and first year dues are about $100.00. Pre-candidates that successfully complete
this course are elevated to the status of candidate.

As a candidate, you enjoy all the responsibilities and benefits of a jacketed patroller with the
exception of transporting a patient. Training is every Sunday morning from 9:00 AM to noon and
Wednesday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. Annual dues of $100.00 and one five-hour duty shift
are also required.
|

A proficiency evaluation, along with a written test is given annually the first Sunday in February
for those candidates that the training staff certifies as ready. After passing the February evaluation
and test, the candidate is elevated to the status of basic (jacket) patroller at which time they are
expected to purchase a rust and blue patrol jacket.
|
| |
|
After completing training, patrollers are required to ski 10 hours a week (two five-hour shifts) and
pay $100.00 in annual dues.
|
| |
|
Annually, all patrollers, including candidates, are required to refresh their CPR, OEC and Lift Chair
Evacuation skills. They are also required to work one shift at our annual Ski Swap fundraiser and one
shift at a work party for maintenance and improvements to our patrol building.
